July Wrap Up

  • Jul 31, 2024
  • 3 min read

We have survived another month, and and I managed to read nine books in total. That's pretty average for me, though slightly lower than usual. Out of these nine books, there were five ARCs, four audiobooks, five digital books, and two physical books. If you are observant, you might notice that the numbers don't quite add up, even when excluding the ARCs. This is because I read and listened to a few of them at the same time, or alternated between the audio and written versions.

The Undermining of Twyla and Frank

This book was gifted to me through NetGalley.

Publication date: July 02, 2024

Genre: Fantasy, Romance

Series: The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy #2

Pages: 464

I loved this book more than the first one, and I would recommend it to anyone who loves mystery, fantasy, and humor with heartwarming and lovable characters. Go read it, what are you waiting for?

The Prison Healer

Publication date: April 13, 2021

Genre: Fantasy, YA, Romance

Series: The Prison Healer #1

Pages: 416

I really enjoyed this! I read this as a buddy read with some of the Bokprat girlies, it was also a part of my 12 books recommended by 12 friends challenge. Can't wait to continue the series (eventually)

Den Onde Arven

Publication date: January 1, 1982

Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Historical fiction

Series: Sagaen om Isfolket #6

Pages: 252

I've been continuing this series on audiobook, since only the first three books have been re-released in physical copies. I'm still enjoying it, but the books are a bit hit or miss. I apparently gave this four stars, but I remember nothing.

Charting Stars

This book was gifted to me through NetGalley.

Publication date: May 21, 2021

Genre: Fantasy, YA, Romance

Series: The Nine Realms Tales #1

Pages: 248

This was a delicious little snack of a book, perfect for anyone who loves fantasy, wants something easy and fast to read and who loves magical adventures.

Utspring

Publication date: June 28, 2024

Genre: Historical Fiction

Series: Skogstjerner #3

Pages: 253

The previous book ended in such a cliffhanger, it was torment to wait for this third book to be released. It continues in the same quality as the previous two, and I'm really invested in the story. Really recommend this series.

Reputation

This book was gifted to me through NetGalley.

Publication date: July 8, 2021

Genre: Romance, Historical Fiction

Series: Time of Iron #1

Pages: 464

While the book was entertaining, it didn’t completely wow me. It took me longer to get through than I’d like to admit – maybe because I wasn’t always excited to pick it up. It’s like a fluffy historical romp that suddenly throws in some heavy topics without much follow-through on the consequences. I kept waiting for a bigger punch that never quite landed.

Beneath These Cursed Stars

This book was gifted to me through Edelweiss

Publication date: July 30, 2024

Genre: Fantasy, YA, Romance

Series: Beneath These Cursed Stars #1

Pages: 432

I loved this! It's an addictive read that kept me glued to the pages and made me lose track of time—completely impossible to put down. I definitely recommend giving it a go, especially if you're a fan of YA fantasy with strong female leads.

A Tempest of Tea

This book was gifted to me through NetGalley.

Publication date: February 20, 2024

Genre: Fantasy, YA, Romance

Series: Blood and Tea #1

Pages: 338

I was really disappointed by this book — vampires, tea, and a dark, mysterious atmosphere are exactly my cup of tea. But this fell short, I did not connect with the characters and I spent most of the time being confused about what was going on.

Not Another Love Song

Publication date: July 4, 2024

Genre: Romance, Contemporary

Pages: 384

This was a really fun read. It was straightforward, entertaining, tugged at your heartstrings, and was exactly what I was expecting from it. It was giving me Mozart in the Jungle vibes, if you ever watched that TV-show (I loved it). I've also seen, and met, Hilary Hahn live, so it was kind of fun every time she was mentioned (slight brag).

How was your reading month?

Did you read anything particularly good that you would like to recommend? Have you read any of these? I'm currently finishing up my ARC of Long Live Evil (and spoiler, I'm not loving it?), and I'm reading Bride (buddy read with previously mentioned Bokprat-gang)(Another spoiler, I'm loving it?), so will hopefully finish them early August. Anyway! Stay tuned and peace out fellow youngsters! Ill see my self out...
